Residence AdvisorsResidence Advisors play an important role in residence life: they offer orientation programs that ease your transition to UBC and they plan community events and programs that will help you learn, grow and make friends. Academic programs include learning to take notes, improving your study skills, and handling midterms. Residence Advisors are among the best-connected people at UBC: if they can't help you, they know who can. They lend an ear when you need to vent or ask for help, and they help ensure a peaceful, respectful residence environment. Residence Advisors also make sure that there is plenty to do in your free time. There are recreational sports, movies, trips, dances, multicultural events, motivational speakers, coffeehouses, performing arts events and much more. |
Residence Coordinators(Totem Park and Place Vanier)Residence Coordinators are students in their final years of their undergraduate, or graduate degrees , who work and live in Totem Park and Place Vanier. RCs supervise a group of Residence Advisors, get to know the residents in their house(s), and liaise with the elected House Councils. RCs help Advisors to plan events, be available for their residents, and help keep residence a respectful and peaceful place to live. Annual residence events such as Colour Wars and the Vanier Olympics, and the variety of committees available to be involved in are also coordinated by RCs. RCs hold regular office hours in their apartments, which are located in most houses. Drop by to say hi! |

Residence Life ManagersResidence Life Managers are professional staff who live and work in each of the residence areas. They are responsible for ensuring that each resident has the opportunity to enjoy a positive living experience. Residence Life Managers supervise the Residence Life staff in their areas and work with the Residence Associations. RLMs have offices in their respective commonsblocks and are available to listen to and discuss any questions or concerns you may have about living in residence. RLMs help to manage student behaviour, coordinate room bookings, and have extensive knowledge of campus resources. They work closely with other Student Housing and Hospitality Services staff including Residence Administration, Facilities Maintenance, Housekeeping and Food Services. Please stop by and introduce yourself to your RLM! |

Kyle Lethbridge Dene, Nootka, Kwakiutl and ShuswapHello there! Welcome to Totem Park North. I am looking forward to meeting you, but in meantime I am happy to tell you a little bit about myself. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. Before university I was never the type to get involved but during my first week in residence I was asked to join the Residence House Council (similar to the Residence Hall Association) and this experience changed my life. After completing my first year I became a Residence Life Don for the next three years and continued to get involved in a variety of other departments. After four years at Laurier I moved to Guelph where I continued working in residence as an Assistant Residence Life Manager. Having graduated I now found myself across the country in beautiful British Columbia where I am excited to continue working with students in Residence Life! As the Residence Life Manager, I work closely with the Residence Coordinators and the Residence Advisors to create an environment that is conducive to academic success and personal growth. The Residence Life staff work diligently to plan events, support a respectful living environment, respond to emergency situations, and be a resource, friend, and confidante to make residents' university and residence experience unforgettable. We work with our colleagues at the Front Desk, Building Services, Food Services and the Totem Park Residence Association to ensure your experience at Totem Park is a positive one. To get the most out of your residence and overall UBC experience, I strongly encourage you to get involved. Attend your floor events, join the residence council, or participate in an annual event like the musical or Totem Football League. These are just a couple of examples of ways to get involved and there are so many more! There is something for everyone. If you are looking for ideas, your advisor is a great source of information. I truly hope that you enjoy your experience at Totem Park and at UBC, and welcome your feedback, suggestions or comments about living here.
