Integrated Learning Communities

The focus of our Integrated Learning Communities (ILCs) at UBC's Okanagan campus is to extend opportunities for learning and growth beyond the classroom setting to a group of students who share common residential and personal interests.

UBC Okanagan's ILCs are located on campus in our residence buildings. ILC Residence Advisors will tailor their programming initiatives to the focus of their community. Additionally, the students living in an ILC are given the opportunity to facilitate a more community-based approach to programming initiatives and activities with their fellow students. Each of the ILCs are paired with faculty and staff from the campus community who have dedicated extra time and resources to enhancing the learning opportunities for the students involved in these communities, with the goal of providing students with a broader experience in their field.

International Community - The International ILC is a place where cultural diversity is apparent, discussed and most of all celebrated. The philosophy behind the creation of the community is to promote understanding of the increasingly distinct cultures that are represented at UBC. International students and domestic students alike will comprise this living and learning opportunity; they will spend the academic year learning about diversity, world issues and each other. It is an opportunity for the students who make up the community to explore new cultures and build an understanding of the complex issues that are facing the world today.

Human Kinesiology (H-Kin) Community - Available for students in the Human Kinesiology Program - As members of this community, students will be provided a unique support system. Exciting and engaging programming opportunities will help guide students through the academic and physical rigors of the Kinesiology program. These opportunities can include: exploring their program through off campus trips, advice and support from faculty in traditionally difficult and exciting areas of the program and field, special interest guest lectures and opportunities to support the UBC Heat community. This community is supported by a Residence Advisor who has completed their first year of the Kinesiology program, giving students a resource in the community that they can turn to for advice and support at any time. The goal of the H-Kin ILC is to boost student success and involvement at UBC Okanagan.
