Opening Day - Saturday, September 3, 2011

Check in and Orientation begin at 9 am sessions.

Welcome to residence at UBC!

IMPORTANT: Arrival Times

9 am - if you are scheduled for an odd-numbered unit
12 noon - if you are scheduled for an even-numbered unit

Upon Arrival
  • Please follow campus direction signs to your residence. Signs and volunteers will direct you to park.
Click here for a Parking Map .
  • Walk to the Commonsblock to receive your keys and Check-In & Orientation package (including your Vehicle Pass), and attend a brief Orientation to Residence session.
  • Drive to your residence building. Make sure your Vehicle Pass is hanging from your rearview mirror and is clearly visible. You will have a maximum of 30 minutes to unload your vehicle. Please take the time to consider bringing only what you need on Opening Day in order to unload as quickly and efficiently as possible.
    • In Totem and Vanier: The driver of the vehicle may NOT exit the vehicle at any point during the unloading process. Unattended vehicles block the flow of traffic and may be towed. Opening Day Volunteers and Residence Life staff will assist in unloading your vehicle.
  • Once unloaded, please move your vehicle to one of our on-campus parking lots. Ensure your Vehicle Pass is still clearly visible and hanging from your rearview mirror; without a visible pass your vehicle may be towed.
In Totem Park and Place Vanier:
  • If you are in Totem Park or Place Vanier, please pack your things neatly in boxes or bags labeled with your Name and Room Number. This will ensure our volunteers are able to help you unload quickly and efficiently.
All that moving has made me a little hungry...
  • During Opening Weekend, we invite you to eat in the residence dining room (in the Commonsblock).
Then what?
  • Once you have moved in, it's time to find out who you'll be living with. Meet your roommate, floor-mates, or neighbours as soon as possible. Keep an eye out for posted info about meetings and events that are happening in your area.
By 4pm...
  • Plan to say goodbye to your family and embark on an evening of fun excitement and information at our orientation sessions.
