Summer Housing

Summer Housing

In a shared furnished apartment in Upper Cascades your unit has 4 single bedrooms connected to a common area where four students share two bathrooms, a spacious kitchen, dining area and living room plus balcony.

Each bedroom includes a single bed, dresser, desk, chair and closet. Additional furnishings for each suite includes a sofa, two arm chairs, dining table and chairs, fridge, stove and microwave. All units are air conditioned and have Internet connections in each bedroom. Utilities and Internet are included in the rent. Cable and telephone service is not. Laundry facilities are located nearby. Suite-mates can be requested.

You may do your own cooking (please bring your own cooking utensils as these are not supplied).  Food Services on campus are limited during the summer.

Housekeeping services are not provided.  It is the responsibility of residents to keep the unit's common areas clean.

Summer Housing for Non-Residents

Summer Housing is for applicants who currently do not live in a residence managed by UBC Student Housing and Hospitality Services, Okanagan. Rooms in summer residences are available from May 13th to August 21st, 2012.  Check in on May 13th begins at 12 noon.  Please note a minimum 30 day stay is required.

Eligibility for Summer Housing

The following students may apply. Verification of your status is required when you apply.

Group 1: Students currently living in residence managed by Student Housing and Hospitality Services during the 2011/2012 Winter Session (see Staythrough information)

Group 2: UBC Okanagan students registered in summer credit courses or in a graduate program.

Group 3: UBC Okanagan student employed by a UBC department in a research capacity. Proof of employment is required. A copy of your appointment notice is sufficient.

Group 4: Full-time students from other universities performing research directed by a UBC department. Proof of UBC sponsorship and student status is required.

Group 5: Individuals with special circumstances by the approval of the Residence Life Manager

Priority for housing will be given to group one. Applicants from groups two or three will be assigned based on availability. Application does not guarantee assignment.

Room Assignments

Students assigned to residence for the summer will receive a room offer to Upper Cascades residence.  Specific residence and unit/room assignments will be made in mid April to enable greater flexibility in assigning rooms and accommodating student roommate and room preferences.

Room Consolidation

Students assigned to units where there may be one or more room vacancies in a unit may be asked to move to another unit to enable consolidation of vacancies. This may occur at any time during the summer. As much notice as possible will be given to a resident required to relocate.

Construction

Construction is ongoing on campus and your unit may be affected by construction noise and disruption.

Parking

Some parking is available at a monthly fee.  You can apply for parking after you accept your summer residence offer at - http://www.ubc.ca/okanagan/parking/welcome/html.

 

Staythrough

Summer Staythrough for Current Residents

Summer Staythrough is for residents who currently hold a residence contract with Student Housing and Hospitality Services at the Okanagan Campus.  Winter session residence contract ends on Thursday, April 26th, 2012 at noon.  If you require Summer Staythrough housing from April 26th - September 1, 2012, or for a portion of the summer from April 26th onwards, we invite you to apply for summer Staythrough.  You are required to be registered in summer session courses, and there is no age requirement.  Application does not assure an assignment, and rooms will be assigned based on availability. 

Staythrough residents will be given priority for accommodation if they apply by March 15, 2012.

Residents returning in the fall

If you have a 2012 Winter Session assignment to another UBC Okanagan residence, you may be required to move during mid to late August. Please make note of these dates now in case you plan to be away from residence during the end of August.

Residents not returning in the fall

If you are not returning to a residence managed by UBC Student Housing and Hospitality Services, Okanagan in September 2012, you must vacate your room on or before August 21, 2012.

Room Assignments

Rates

Residence fee payment will be required in one instalment if you are staying for 60 days or fewer, and two instalments if you are staying 61 days or longer.

Summer Housing Rates:

Summer Housing Rates in Upper Cascades will be based on a rate of $23.50 per day.

The Instalment due dates are:

First instalment due on acceptance of offer for payment through to July 1, 2012.
Second instalment due date will be early June (if applicable) for payment from July 1, 2012 to summer check out date.

For residents vacating earlier than July 1, all residence fees must be paid by the first instalment date.

Payment methods

We accept Interac, cash, money order, or personal cheque.  Visa or MasterCard is available on-line only.

Application

Please include $50 CDN with your summer housing application (with the exception of summer stay-through applicants). This is a non-refundable application fee. We accept Interac, direct payment, cash, money order, or personal cheque.  Visa and Mastercard is available on-line only.

Cancellation Policy

For summer and summer stay-through Housing, you are required to give written cancellation notice to UBC Student Housing and Hospitality Services, Okanagan. Please note that:

  • The $50 residence application fee (not applicable to stay-through residents) is non-refundable.
  • If we receive written notice of cancellation 22 days prior to the move-in date shown on your residence acceptance confirmation, your  residence fee payment will be refunded.
  • If we receive written notice of cancellation within 21 days of the move-in date shown on your residence acceptance confirmation, a $100 cancellation fee will be assessed.
  • After the move-in date, 30 days notice is required to cancel your summer contract.
