Summer Residence

In a shared furnished apartment or townhouse, you will have a private bedroom and share the kitchen, lounge and bathroom with 3 to 5 other residents. Each bedroom has a bed, pillow and a desk with a lamp. Bring your own bed linens. Residence beds require extra-long twin sheets. Twin XL sheets are 39" x 80" (fitted) and 66" x 96" (flat).

You may do your own cooking (please bring your own cooking utensils as these are not supplied), or purchase meals at one of the many food service outlets on campus or restaurants in the University Village.

As summer residences are occupied year-round, you will find yourself assigned to an apartment or townhouse where one or more of your roommates have been living for several weeks, months or years. Whereas bedrooms are cleaned prior to you moving in, the shared common areas will reflect the housekeeping standards and practices of the roommate(s) already residing there. Housekeeping services are not provided. It is the responsibility of residents to keep the unit's common areas clean.

On your application, please indicate your preference for room size and co-ed or single-gender housing.

Summer Housing

Summer Housing is for applicants who currently do not live in a residence managed by Student Housing and Hospitality Services or for current residents who do not need continuous housing from their winter contract to the summer session.

Rooms in summer residences are available from May 11 to August 17, 2014. Check in on May 11 begins at 12 noon.

Eligibility for Summer Housing

The following students may apply. Verification of your status is required when you apply.

Group 1: UBC students registered in summer credit courses or in a graduate program.

Group 2: UBC students employed by a UBC department in a research capacity. Proof of employment is required. A copy of your appointment notice is sufficient.

Group 3: Full-time students from other universities performing research directed by a UBC department. Proof of UBC sponsorship and student status is required. Please attach proof of UBC employment or sponsorship, if applicable, and provide your student number on your housing application. Priority for housing will be given to group one. Applicants from groups two or three will be assigned based on availability. Application does not guarantee assignment.

Room Assignments

Students assigned to residence for the summer will receive a residence offer, but not for a specific residence unit or room. Specific unit/room assignments will be made in mid April to enable greater flexibility in assigning rooms and accommodating student roommate and room preferences.

Room Consolidation

Students assigned to units where there may be one or more room vacancies in a unit may be asked to move to another unit to enable consolidation of vacancies. This may occur at any time during the summer. As much notice as possible will be given to a resident required to relocate.

Construction

Construction is occurring adjacent to most of our residences and your unit may be affected by construction noise and disruption.

Parking

Some parking is available for a monthly fee. You can apply for parking after you accept your summer residence offer. More parking info...

Residents returning in the fall

If you have a winter session 2014-2015 assignment to another UBC Student Housing & Hospitality Services' residence, you will be required to move there between August 23-26. Please make note of these dates now and plan accordingly in case you plan to be away from residence during the end of August. (This date may be revised and residents will be notified of any revision).
